Archibald Lab

Welcome to the Archibald Lab in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada!

We study the genes and genomes of microorganisms. We are particularly interested in how (and how frequently) genes are transferred between eukaryotes, prokaryotes and viruses, as well as how endosymbionts become organelles. To learn more, please click here.

Dalhousie University is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq. We are all Treaty people.

John Archibald elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Learn more here.
ICG Ph.D. student Shannon Sibbald has been awarded the 2022 Faculty of Medicine Excellence in Research Award for her research proposal entitled “Patterns and process of genome evolution in harmful algal bloom-forming protists”. Shannon is co-supervised by ICG Members John Archibald and Andrew Roger. Congratulations Shannon!
